Academic curriculum structure of the Doctorate degree

Doctoral students must complete all credits in courses within a maximum period of 18 months. Seventy (70) credits in courses are required for the Doctorate program.

Students may be able to take up to 30 credits from the Master´s degree. Click here to find out more.

Students who succeed in taking 30 credits from the Master's degree must take 40 credits in the Doctorate, in different courses from the courses taken on the Master´s program.

The following courses are the only ones required on the Doctorate program:  Production Systems (ENP001), Research Methods (ENP002) and Production Engineering Seminars II (ENP004). All other credits can be taken at PPGEP or in Postgraduate Programs of other institutions, with the consent of the supervisor. The ENP001, ENP002 and ENP 004 courses are offered only in the first semester.

The Production Engineering Seminars II (ENP004) should only be taken in the second year of the Doctorate. In addition to this course, students who did not take the Production Systems (ENP001) and Research Methods (ENP002) courses, or equivalent courses (*) during the Master's degree, should take these courses on the Doctorate program.

(*) The equivalence of a course must be analysed and endorsed by the advisor.

The Production Engineering Seminars II course consists of the developing presenting and defending the Doctoral Thesis project (text with at least 20 pages). To take this course, the student must have defined his/her supervisor and have a minimally developed research project (bibliographic review completed) to be able to defend his/her project during the course for a board with at least 3 faculty members.

The Supervised Internship Course II (PESCD II) (ENP 012) can be taken until the last semester of the Doctorate and is mandatory for CAPES scholarship holders.

The Guided Studies course (02 credits) is an elective course, and can be used to complement credits in courses, if necessary.

After completing the credits in the courses, the student must do the Qualification Exam within 36 months and the viva within 48 months, counting from his/her enrollment in the program.
